KUCHING: A Paintball Clinic and Tech Course held recently at the SSC Paintball Arena and facilitated by Alan Lian from Team MACDEV Ronin was a success.
Lian, who is from MacDev Militia (Malaysia), said the participants – an array of players from every level – went home with higher confidence as they had undergone the basics, intermediate and advanced stages of play.
In the basic clinic, fundamental knowledge was introduced or refreshed where the participants are taught on the marker setup (gun), walk the field and field reading (covering zones), how to play around different bunkers and the importance of “Snap-shooting”.
In the intermediate level, the participants were given a hands on approach where they were taught on the importance of fitness, strategies, the intermediate “Snap-shooting”, movement manoeuvres such as sliding, running and shooting before entering the more advanced level.
The clinic also saw Lian’s team reaching greater heights as they were the first team to be officially sponsored by MacDev and responsible in
bringing MACDEV into the Asian region.
Among their top notch achievements include being the first and only Malaysian team to qualify for the World Cup Asia 2008 where they ended their campaign in second place.

Paintball gaining popularity

Thursday, September 10th, 2009

KUCHING: Although paintball was introduced to the State barely three years ago, the sports is rapidly gaining popularity in the State due to the dedication of the Sarawak Paintball Association (SPA).
SPA which was registered in January 23 last year gained the support of the Ministry of Social Development and Urbanisation (KPSU) when the ministry gave it a grant to organize in their inaugural championship, “Discover Paintball2008″.
Even before its registration, SPA had been actively involved in organising events with the Sarawak Maritime Department (sports and recreation club).
In their bid to promote and develop the sports in the state, SPA has been constantly organising events and competitions.
During paintball clinics that SPA organised the participants were given a chance to get? hands-on experience in using the marker (gun).
The main emphasis during these clinics safety which is the top priority during every match.
SPA has also sent teams to take part in the “Malaysian Paintball Official Circuit” which concluded recently.
During that campaign, sole team from the state, PPS Syndrome did Sarawak proud when they finish 7th place out of the 40 teams from Malaysia and Singapore.
The team did not come home empty handed as they were awarded the “Best Perfoming team from East Malaysia” by the organisers.
With the support of the Malaysian Marshals, so far SPA had organised 15 championships since 2007.
The association had also groomed several marshals or referees to facilitate holding of more competitions locally.
Besides organising tournaments, SPA had also held a demonstration of the sport during the Sarawak Cub Prix at the Sarawak stadium parking lot on April 11 and 12 followed by another one during the Mukah leg motorcycle racing circuit on May 30 and 31.
Other activities and exhibitions organized by SPA were held in conjunction with Health Walk organised by DBKU on June 28, SK Matang Jaya Open Day on June 27, Sarawak Anti Corruption Carnival at Padang Merdeka on July 11 to 12, State Level Youth Assembly 2009 at the Bintulu Civic Centre on August 8 and the Siol Extreme MTB Challenge 2009 on August 9

Alpha excel in SWAT scenario competition

Sunday, August 9th, 2009

The participants strapped themselves with a full SWAT gear – locked and loaded for action.

JEREMY VENO- easterntimes.com.my

KUCHING: It was an all-out battle in a four storey building at Padungan last weekend which saw the exchanging of pellet paints from 70 paintballers taking part in the inaugural SWAT scenario paintball competition.
Organised by Batik Boutique Hotel, the participants were divided into the SWAT and terrorist faction on a 10-A-side team which saw Alpha playing the SWAT team emerging as the overall champions after they completed three compulsory missions.
Alpha walked home with prizes sponsored by the main contributors, DiGi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd.
To get a closer feel of the action, remaining teams and enthusiasts watched the battle via CCTV installed at
strategic locations, leaving each and every move of the players opened for discussion.
Besides the main paintball activity, a costume SWAT outfit was also held where prizes came from the Borneo Paintball Scenario.
This event was held in collaboration the Sarawak Paintball Association and the Malaysian Marshals together with event partners, the Tarot Cafe, Tarot Ichiban Japanese Restaurant and Sushi Bar and the Borneo Paintball Sport Event Management.
Meanwhile, another series of scenario paintball will be held on August 16 at the Borneo Paintball Scenario Pasir Pandak with a format of Starwars: Earth.
